چکیده

An accurate and detailed knowledge of the consistency 1 of the cytoplasm of different regions of the ameba during locomotion would seem to be of primary importance in understanding the mechanism of ameboid movement. Unfortunately, no such knowledge exists. In fact, it will be shown in this and in succeeding papers that the rheological information now available on ameba cytoplasm is at best fragmentary and largely incorrect. "Force-flow curves" (velocity gradient as a function of shear-stress (See Figs. 2, 5)) for ameba endoplasm might by themselves permit a clear decision between classes of possible mechanisms of streaming. If the endoplasm were a structureless Newtonian sol of low viscosity as has been claimed (7, 8, 16), some sort of pressure-induced flow would be the most attractive and logical possible mechanism to explore. The development of the motive force for streaming could not very well take place either at the edge of the stream or within the stream itself. On the other hand, if the endoplasm showed signs of structure (as evidenced by pseudoplastic flow), while pressure-flow would not be excluded, the possibility that all or part of the motive force for streaming might be developed in or at the edge of the stream would become more likely.

The Consistency of Ameba Cytoplasm and Its Bearing on the Mechanism of Ameboid Movement

Three species of common, free-living amebae, Amoeba proteus, Amoeba dubia, and Chaos chaos were directly observed and photographed while exposed to a range of centrifugal accelerations in two types of centrifuge microscopes. Cytoplasmic inclusions in all three species are displaced discontinuously (at a variable velocity) in apparently all parts of the cell, suggesting non-Newtonian behavior an...

A Study of Pedestrian Movement on Crosswalks Based on Chaos Theory

Walking, as an important transportation mode, plays a large part in urban transportation systems. This mode is of great importance for planners and decision-makers because of its impact on environmental and health aspects of communities. However, this mode is so complex in nature that makes it difficult to study or model. On the other hand, chaos theory studies complex dynamical nonlinear syste...

Conservative chaotic flow generated via a pseudo-linear system

Analysis of nonlinear autonomous systems has been a popular field of study in recent decades. As an interesting nonlinear behavior, chaotic dynamics has been intensively investigated since Lorenz discovered the first physical evidence of chaos in his famous equations. Although many chaotic systems have been ever reported in the literature, a systematic and qualitative approach for chaos generat...

Chaos/Complexity Theory and Education

Sciences exist to demonstrate the fundamental order underlying nature. Chaos/complexity theory is a novel and amazing field of scientific inquiry. Notions of our everyday experiences are somehow in connection to the laws of nature through chaos/complexity theory’s concerns with the relationships between simplicity and complexity, between orderliness and randomness (Retrieved from http://www.inc...

Chaotic Test and Non-Linearity of Abnormal Stock Returns: Selecting an Optimal Chaos Model in Explaining Abnormal Stock Returns around the Release Date of Annual Financial Statements

For many investors, it is important to predict the future trend of abnormal stock returns. Thus, in this research, the abnormal stock returns of the listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange were tested since 2008- 2017 using three hypotheses. The first and second hypotheses examined the non-linearity and non-randomness of the abnormal stock returns ′ trend around the release date of annual fin...
